Send and WeTransfer both let you share files through a download link. Choose based on how much you need to send, how often you send, and when recipients can download.
Compare free web transfers
Comparison checked September 15, 2026. The WeTransfer details below come from its plan limits, availability guide, and sending guide.
What to check | Send | WeTransfer Free |
Transfer allowance | Up to 10 transfers per calendar month | Up to 10 transfers or 3 GB total in a rolling 30-day period |
Size and file count | Up to 4 GB combined per transfer, with up to 50 files | The 3 GB allowance applies across the rolling period |
Link availability | 7 days | Up to 3 days |
How to share | Create a link or use Send email | Link or email transfer |
A calendar-month allowance resets at the start of each month. A rolling 30-day allowance changes as earlier transfers fall outside that period. WeTransfer's free 3 GB allowance is a total for the period, not 3 GB for each transfer.
With Send, you can start without creating an account, but you need to verify your email address. This table compares free web use. It does not establish paid access for a particular account.
Check the controls you need
Web Send offers an optional transfer password. For storage-location requirements and data retention, read Send privacy and data retention. For expired links, use the Send expiry guide.
WeTransfer's paid options have different size, expiry, and access controls. Check its current plans and the price and terms shown before subscribing.
Check whether the service fits your transfer
Add up the file sizes and the transfers you expect to send during the allowance period.
Confirm that recipients can download before the link expires and that the sharing controls meet your needs.
For work files, check your organization's service and storage-location requirements.
Keep a usable original. After sending, ask the recipient to open the downloaded files and confirm the expected version.
Contact Hivenet Support for a Send problem. For environmental claims, read the sustainability guidance.
