Understand shared security responsibilities

See what Hivenet handles and what you need to manage for accounts, files, transfers and backups.

Written by Thanasis Karavasilis

Hivenet operates its services and applies the safeguards appropriate to them. You manage the credentials, devices, recipients and file copies under your control. The division depends on the product and any agreement that applies.

Identify who handles each area

Area

Hivenet's role

Your part

Service operation

Operate the service and apply safeguards such as access controls, monitoring, encryption and incident response, as appropriate.

Report unexpected behavior with the product, time and exact error.

Account and device access

Provide the access and account functions supported by the service.

Protect credentials, keep devices appropriately updated and check who can use them.

Important file copies

Apply the storage safeguards described for the service.

Keep and check additional copies you need. Preserve usable originals when investigating a problem.

Send recipients and retention

Apply the transfer rules shown for the service.

Choose recipients, protect links and transfer passwords, and check the transfer's stated expiration.

Personal information

Handle personal data according to the Privacy Policy and applicable agreement.

Check that you have the permissions and lawful grounds needed for the information you upload or share.

Account notices

Provide notices required by the applicable service rules, agreement and law.

Keep contact information current and review account, security and inactivity notices.

An account password, an optional Store encryption passphrase and a Send transfer password have different purposes. Use the encryption and access guide to identify each one; never give a recipient your account password or Store passphrase.

Your precautions do not reduce Hivenet's own obligations under applicable law or contract. Read the Terms of Service and any agreement for the commitments that apply to your service.

Check your part without changing access

  1. Privately review your sign-in method and any enabled Store passphrase with the encryption and access guide. Keep working sessions open.

  2. Identify the devices and people that can access the files. Note any access or update concern.

  3. Identify a separate saved copy of an important file and use the backup test guide to check it without replacing the working original.

  4. For Send, review recipients and the way you distribute links and transfer passwords. Review relevant privacy or inactivity notices with the privacy guide.

  5. Record what you checked and any unresolved issue. Assign each next action to yourself or record the question Hivenet needs to answer.

If an enabled passphrase is missing, preserve working access and follow the lost-passphrase guide. Resetting an account password does not recover a Store encryption passphrase.

Check service limits and report concerns

Interruptions can occur. A particular uptime, support-response or recovery commitment applies only where it is provided in the relevant terms or agreement. The Privacy Policy explains personal-data handling and breach notifications.

For Compute, you also manage the workloads, applications, credentials and network exposure you configure. Use Hivenet Docs for those tasks; the Store passphrase guidance applies to Store.

For unexpected account activity, an unavailable file or another service concern, contact Hivenet Support. Include the product, device, app or browser, time, expected behavior and exact error. Keep working copies and leave credentials and private file contents out of the message.
