Encryption turns readable content into data that needs the appropriate key to read. Decryption turns it back into usable content. Store uses encryption for file content; a separate Store encryption passphrase is optional.
Separate keys, sign-in and passphrases
The app uses cryptographic keys to encrypt and decrypt file data. Your account password signs you in; an enabled Store passphrase protects file access separately. In the Store web app, open Settings and then Encryption passphrase to check whether it is enabled. Check privately where any existing passphrase record is kept; keep the passphrase out of your review notes.
An app may open files without asking for a passphrase each time. That does not prove that no passphrase is enabled or that a saved value will work later. Keep working access while checking the record; do not create another account, sign out or change a credential for this review.
Understand the file path
For encrypted storage, the Store client processes file data into encrypted chunks, and file records keep the references needed to retrieve them. Retrieval obtains the stored data and uses the appropriate keys to decrypt and assemble a usable file.
Encryption of content does not mean that all service information is hidden. Hivenet also processes account, usage, device and support information. Review your privacy choices and the Privacy Policy for that information.
Check one file from upload to use
Choose a small file you can recognize and keep its original in place. Keep any device where the file still opens signed in.
Follow the first-file guide to upload the file. Wait for completion and check any error before relying on the stored copy.
Download the stored file into a separate location so it cannot replace the original.
Open that downloaded copy in the app it needs. Make sure you are opening the saved file, rather than the original, a shortcut or a preview.
Compare the contents with the expected version, including any required pages, media or linked files.
Record the upload result, downloaded-copy location and content-check result separately.
A filename in a list or a partial preview does not establish a complete uploaded or downloaded file. A successful file check also does not measure the encryption method or establish who can access keys in every product or account state.
Protect downloaded copies and resolve failures
Protect the downloaded copy and the device that holds it. Once content is available as a normal local file, anyone with access to that copy may be able to read it. Keep your account password, Store passphrase and any Send transfer password separate.
If an upload fails or a stored file is missing, will not download or will not open, preserve usable copies and contact Hivenet Support. Include the device, app or browser, time, expected result and exact error. Keep credentials and private file contents out of the message.
If Store asks for a passphrase you cannot find, follow the lost-passphrase guide. Hivenet cannot recover it. Resetting an account password does not recover that passphrase or prove that protected files are accessible.
Use the file-integrity check for a closer content review. The result applies to the file and version you checked at that time.
