A useful Store plan names the files you need, where their other copies are kept and how you will check access. Start with a small group so you can test the plan before adding more.
Write your plan
Files: Name one project, folder or small group of documents. Note its approximate size and which files would be hardest to replace.
Originals: Record where a usable copy will remain outside Hivenet.
Access: List the devices where you need the files and which files you need offline.
Updates: Note how often the files change and when you will update the stored copy.
Check: Choose a file to download and open after uploading. Record the date and whether its contents are complete.
Choose the next task
Your purpose | What to do next |
Work with the files regularly | Keep the working originals and check that each device can open the files it needs. Keep a separate copy on the device when you need offline access. |
Keep an additional copy | Use the 3-2-1 backup guide while keeping the originals in their current location. |
Keep completed work | Use the archive guide to choose versions, record what they need and check that you can still open them. |
Check the available space in your Store account and on the device where you will save a download. Read any size or upload error before adding more files. A file listed in Store does not prove that its contents are available offline on every device. Check the separate local copy before relying on it without a connection.
Try the plan
Follow the first-file setup guide for one file from your chosen group. Download it into a separate location, open it and compare it with the original. Record any error before adding more files.
Record whether the retrieved copy is usable and any gap that needs attention. Keep the originals while you resolve a failed check.
Choose a task and review the result
Use the backup-method guide to plan a copying routine. For research files, choose a paper and its related notes. For a creative project, choose a project file, the resources it needs and an exported copy. Check that the saved sample opens in the intended app. Keep the working originals while you check.
Check the files covered by the plan, the original and additional copy locations, and the devices where access is needed.
Record the last completed update and the file you retrieved and opened.
List any missing or unreadable copy, then choose one action to resolve the gap.
Set the next update and retrieval-check dates before adding more files.
Use the maintenance guide for repeat reviews and the retrieval-test guide for a failed or incomplete check. A completed lesson does not establish that your files are protected.
