Access your files before and after converting to Protocol V2

Where you can access files on the previous version, what changes after self-conversion, and what to do before you proceed.

If your Hivenet account is still on the previous version, where you can access your files depends on whether you have converted yet. Before conversion, file access is limited to apps and services that still support the previous version. After you self-convert in the web app, your account can use supported Protocol V2 apps and services, but previous-version data does not carry over.

Before conversion

If your account is still on the previous version, Store in the web app and the new desktop apps will not work with that account.

The web app may still show you the conversion screen, but it is not where you access files from the previous version. Before conversion, your file access stays tied to the apps and services that still support that version.

How to keep files before conversion

If there are files you want to keep, download them before you convert.

For users on the previous version, the supported way to download files before conversion is the mobile app. Do not leave this until later. In the current self-serve conversion flow, data from the previous version does not move into Protocol V2 and will not be available after conversion.

What changes after self-conversion

Once your current account is converted to Protocol V2, that account can use Store in the web app and supported Protocol V2 desktop apps.

You may also need to sign in again on your devices and apps after conversion. In the current self-serve conversion flow, previous-version data does not appear in Protocol V2 afterward.

If the web app shows two options

In the web app, you may see a choice to:

  1. Convert your current account to Protocol V2

  2. Create a separate Protocol V2 account

These are different choices.

Choose Convert to Protocol V2 if you want to keep using the same account and move that account to Protocol V2.

Choose Create a Protocol V2 account only if you want to leave your current account unchanged and create a new Protocol V2 account with a different email address.

Before you convert

Use this checklist before you continue:

  1. Download any files you want to keep using the mobile app.

  2. Sign out of Hivenet on your other devices and apps.

  3. Make sure you understand that Store in the web app and the new desktop apps require Protocol V2.

  4. Make sure you understand that, in the current self-serve conversion flow, your previous-version data will not appear after conversion.

  5. Make sure you are choosing the right option in the web app.
