Access your files before and after converting to Protocol V2

Learn where you can access your files on the previous version, what changes after conversion, and how to avoid losing access to data you want to keep.

If your Hivenet account is still on the previous version, it is important to understand where you can and cannot access your files.

Some newer Hivenet apps and services only work with Protocol V2 accounts. That means the way you access files before conversion is not the same as the way you access files after conversion.

Before conversion

If your account is still on the previous version, your access is limited to the apps and services that still support that version.

This matters most in three places:

  • Store in the web app requires a Protocol V2 account

  • new desktop apps require a Protocol V2 account

  • the option to convert your account is available in the web app

That means you cannot use a previous-version account to open Store in the web app, and you cannot sign in to the new desktop apps with that account.

How to download files before conversion

If you want to keep files from the previous version, download them before conversion using the mobile app. For users on the previous version, the only supported way to download files before conversion is through the mobile app.

Some users may still be able to access files through the deprecated Windows app, but that app is no longer supported and should not be relied on as the standard path.

Do not wait until after conversion. Data from the previous version does not move into Protocol V2 and cannot be accessed afterward, including by Hivenet.

What changes after conversion

Once your account is converted to Protocol V2, it begins using supported Protocol V2 apps and services instead.

After conversion:

  • Store in the web app can work with that account

  • new desktop apps can work with that account

  • you may need to sign in again on your devices and apps

  • data from the previous version does not appear in Protocol V2

Conversion does not bring your old data into the new protocol. It changes the account you continue using.

Your previous data does not carry over

This is the most important part.

After conversion, data from the previous version:

  • does not move into Protocol V2

  • does not carry over to your converted account

  • cannot be accessed afterward, including by Hivenet

If there are files you want to keep, download them before you convert.

Web app access

The web app is where you may be asked to choose what to do next.

If you try to use Store in the browser with an account on the previous version, Hivenet may show you options to either:

  • convert your current account to Protocol V2

  • create a separate Protocol V2 account with a different email address

If you convert your current account, access changes for that account going forward.

If you create a separate Protocol V2 account, your current account stays unchanged, but the new account must use a different email address.

Desktop app access

The new desktop apps use Protocol V2 accounts.

If your account is still on the previous version, you cannot use Store in the web app with that account, and you cannot sign in to the new desktop apps with that account.

After conversion, your account can use supported Protocol V2 desktop apps.

What to do before you convert

Before converting your account:

  1. Download any files you want to keep using the mobile app.

  2. Sign out of Hivenet on your other devices and apps.

  3. Make sure you understand that Store in the browser and the new desktop apps require Protocol V2.

  4. Make sure you understand that your previous data will not appear after conversion.
