Converting your current Hivenet account to Protocol V2 is a permanent change to how that account works.
In the current self-serve conversion flow, you keep the same account, email address, password, and plan. If you have files in your account on the previous version that you want to keep, download them before you continue.
After you self-convert, data from the previous version does not carry over and will not be available afterward.
Read this first
Before you continue, there are four things to understand.
Download any files you want to keep before you convert.
Sign out of Hivenet on your other devices and apps first.
Conversion is available in the web app.
Make sure you want to convert this account, not create a separate new Protocol V2 account.
What stays the same after conversion
When you convert your current account to Protocol V2, you keep the same account, email address, password, and plan. You do not need to cancel your account and create it again just to keep those details.
What changes after conversion
After conversion, your account uses Protocol V2. That means you can use Store in the web app with that account and sign in to supported Protocol V2 desktop apps with it. It also means your account is no longer working as an account on the previous version.
In the current self-serve conversion flow, data from the previous version does not move into Protocol V2 and will not be available afterward. Treat conversion as a one-way change.
Download your files before you convert
If there are files in your current account that you want to keep, download them before you convert.
Do not assume those files will still be available after conversion. In the current self-serve flow, they do not move into Protocol V2 automatically. For users on the previous version, use the supported access path for that account to download what you need before continuing. If your current setup only supports file access through the mobile app, use the mobile app before you proceed.
Sign out on your other devices and apps
Before you convert, sign out of Hivenet on your other devices and apps.
This helps prevent problems caused by using the same account across devices in different protocol states during conversion. If you are signed in on another phone, tablet, or computer, sign out there before you continue in the web app.
Know where conversion happens
You can only convert your current account to Protocol V2 in the web app.
If your account is still on the previous version, some newer Hivenet surfaces will not work with that account yet. A previous-version account cannot use Store in the web app, and it cannot sign in to the new desktop apps. You may see the conversion screen in the web app when you try to use Store there.
You may see two options
In the web app, you may be asked to choose between:
Convert to Protocol V2
Create a Protocol V2 account
These are different choices.
Choose Convert to Protocol V2 if you want to keep using your current account with the same email address, password, and plan.
Choose Create a Protocol V2 account only if you want to leave your current account unchanged and create a new Protocol V2 account with a different email address.
Before you proceed
Use this checklist before converting:
Download any files you want to keep.
Sign out of Hivenet on your other devices and apps.
Make sure you understand that Store in the web app and supported new desktop apps require Protocol V2.
Make sure you understand that, in the current self-serve conversion flow, your previous-version data will not carry over after conversion.
Make sure you are converting the right account.
When to stop and ask Support
Do not continue yet if:
you are not sure which account you are signed in to
you are not sure whether you should convert or create a separate Protocol V2 account
you have not downloaded files you want to keep
you are still signed in on other devices
you are unsure how conversion will affect the way you use Hivenet
In those cases, contact Hivenet Support before you proceed.
