Preview Markdown and HTML files in Store on the web

Read Markdown, use interactive HTML previews, and switch between the rendered file and its source.

Written by Thanasis Karavasilis

Store on the web can display Markdown (.md) and HTML (.html) files without downloading them first. Use a preview to read notes, inspect an export, or click through an HTML presentation.

HTML previews do not save your progress. Changes such as checked boxes are lost when you close the preview.

Open a preview

  1. Open the Hivenet web app and go to Store → All files.

  2. Find the uploaded Markdown or HTML file. If you need to upload it first, follow Get started with Store and wait for the upload to finish.

  3. Open the file’s three-dot menu and select View.

  4. The file opens in Preview. Markdown appears as formatted text; HTML appears as a rendered page.

Select Close to return to your files.

Switch between Preview and Code

Use the switch at the top right of the preview:

  • Preview shows the formatted Markdown or rendered HTML.

  • Code shows the file’s source text.

Select Preview again to return to the rendered view.

Use an interactive HTML file

HTML previews support controls such as buttons, tabs, checkboxes, and slide navigation. For example, you can use a presentation’s next and previous buttons while it is open in Store.

Use a self-contained HTML export, with its styles and scripts included in the same file. HTML previews cannot send data to the internet, so actions that need to submit data to an online service will not work in preview.

If the preview does not work as expected

If you need to inspect the source, switch to Code. To open your file in another app or keep an offline copy, select Download, save a separate copy, and open it in the appropriate app.

Some HTML files can make the Store tab unresponsive in Firefox or Safari. If this happens, close the affected browser tab. If the problem repeats, contact Hivenet Support with your browser version, the file type, and the action that failed. Do not include private file contents.

If the file also fails to download or open outside the preview, follow Get help with missing or unreadable Store files. Keep the original while you investigate.
