Store with Hivenet works across desktop and mobile, but the experience is not exactly the same on every device.
This guide brings together the main things you need to know to get started, including setup basics, desktop and mobile differences, file availability, and what happens when files move in or out of your Hivenet folder.
For exact compatibility details and deeper troubleshooting, use the related articles at the end.
Before you install
Check that your device is supported before you install the app.
Hivenet currently supports macOS 11 and above, iOS 16 and above, and Android 9 and above. Some Android architectures are not supported, so the app may not appear in the Play Store on those devices.
You can check your OS version in your device settings before you begin. On macOS, go to Apple menu > About This Mac. On Windows, go to Settings > System > About.
On iPhone, iPad, or Android, open Settings and look for the About section.
What happens on desktop
When you install Hivenet on desktop, it creates a dedicated Hivenet folder. This is the main place for the files you want to keep in Store with Hivenet. You can open, edit, move, and organize files there like you would in a normal folder on your computer.
Hivenet then syncs those files with your account so you can access them across supported devices.
Desktop files are kept locally available by default. That means you can open them without an internet connection. If you later need to save space on your computer, you can change files or folders to online-only.
What happens on the web
You can access your files from any browser.
Go to Hivenet and sign in, then open Store.
Adding files
You can add files by:
Dragging and dropping them into Store, or
Using Select files.
Managing files
The web app organizes files into a few main areas:
All files shows everything in your storage.
Photos groups photo uploads.
Trash holds deleted items until they are removed permanently.
You can also see your storage usage in the web app.
If a file doesn’t appear right away after uploading or syncing from another device, wait a moment and refresh the page.
What happens on mobile
Mobile works differently from desktop. Files are treated as online-only by default to help save space on your phone or tablet. You can still download files when you want offline access, but you should not expect mobile to behave exactly like a desktop folder.
If you add or change files on your phone, you may need to refresh on desktop to see those changes right away.
On macOS: Finder integration and file status
On macOS, Hivenet integrates with Finder.
You’ll usually see Hivenet in the Finder sidebar under Locations. Your synced files live in: Hivenet → My Disk
Anything inside My Disk is part of Store and can sync across your devices. If you move a file out of the Hivenet folder, it stops syncing.
Common actions in Finder
You can manage how files are stored directly from Finder.
Control-click a file or folder in Hivenet to see these options:
Download Now
Keeps a copy of the item on this Mac.Remove Download
Makes the item online-only on this Mac.Do Not Sync
Excludes the item from sync so it doesn’t appear on other devices.
Some Finder views may also show Send with Hivenet as a Quick Action for sharing files.
Finder status icons
Finder shows file status using icons:
Cloud with arrow
Online-only. Downloads when opened.Crossed cloud
Excluded from sync.Cloud
Stored locally and synced.Dotted cloud
Waiting to sync.Cloud with exclamation mark
Sync issue.Pie chart
Upload or download in progress.
If something looks stuck or unclear, open the Hivenet app to check activity and connection.
Local and online-only files
Store with Hivenet lets you choose how files are stored on desktop.
Local files stay downloaded on your device, so you can use them offline. Online-only files stay stored in Hivenet and download again when you open them. This can help free up space on your computer without removing the file from your account.
How syncing works
When you add, update, or organize files in your Hivenet folder, Hivenet syncs those changes with your account. If you make a change on another device and do not see it on desktop right away, refresh the Hivenet folder to sync your view with the latest cloud state. To do that, right-click the Hivenet folder and select Refresh.
If files still do not look right after that, restart the desktop app, make sure the mobile app is up to date, and confirm that both devices are online and supported.
What happens if you move or delete files
If you move a file out of the Hivenet folder, it is not deleted. It becomes online-only, still uses your Hivenet storage space, and may need a refresh before the status change appears on desktop.
If you delete a file in the Hivenet folder, it is removed from the cloud. You may still be able to restore it from deleted items if needed.
