Sometimes you just want to share a file, fast. With Hivenet, you have two secure ways to do it: Send with Hivenet in your browser (our file-sharing service), or the right-click sharing option from the desktop app. They’re both safe, simple, and create a private link for your recipient. But there are a few important differences, and picking the right one can save you time.

Let’s break down what makes them different and which one’s right for you.

How Send with Hivenet works

  • Open send.hivenet.com in any browser.

  • Upload up to 50 files or up to 4 GB in total.

  • Add an optional passphrase for extra privacy.

  • Enter your email for a quick one-time verification (no full account needed).

  • Share the link with anyone. The files are stored temporarily. Nothing shows up in your Hivenet folder.

  • Links expire after 7 days.

Works anywhere through a browser, no install required.

How desktop right-click sharing works

  • Install and sign in to the Hivenet desktop app.

  • Put your file inside your Hivenet folder (sync required).

  • Right-click the file and choose Send with Hivenet.

  • Instantly get a link (and passphrase option) with no email check.

  • The link starts with share.hivenet.com, and is good for 7 days.

  • Only works with files in your Hivenet folder.

No need to open a browser. Share right from your desktop.

How to tell which method you used

Look at your link:

  • If it starts with send.hivenet.com, it was shared using the browser service.

  • If it starts with share.hivenet.com, it was shared using the desktop app.

Which should you use?

  • Need to share anything, from anywhere, or don’t want to sign in?
Use Send with Hivenet in your browser.

  • Already have your file in Hivenet and want the fastest route?
    Use the desktop right-click shortcut.

Both methods are private, secure, and easy. Pick the one that matches how you work.

What happens after 7 days?

All Send links automatically expire and are deleted from the Hivenet cloud, no action needed. If you need to share again, just create a new link.
