Why do large transfers work better on desktop?

You can use Send on mobile, but for big files, desktop is the way to go.

Send works on mobile browsers (both iOS and Android) so you can upload and share files on the go. That said, there are some real-world limits:

  • ✅ Small files (photos, PDFs, quick docs) usually upload fine

  • ❌ Large or slow uploads may not complete reliably

Why uploads can fail on mobile

Mobile browsers aren’t great at staying “awake” during long uploads. Common issues include:

  • Background tab unloading: Your phone might pause the upload if you switch apps or lock your screen

  • Upload timeouts: Some mobile browsers cut the connection if things take too long

  • Battery or memory limits: Your device may kill the upload to save resources

  • Network switching: Moving between Wi-Fi and data mid-upload can interrupt the process

What we recommend

For transfers over 1 GB (or anything with 20+ files) use desktop if you can. You’ll get:

  • More stable upload performance

  • Faster completion times

  • Fewer interruptions

Tips if you have to use mobile

If desktop’s not an option:

  • Keep your screen active while uploading

  • Avoid switching apps or locking your phone

  • Stick to smaller transfers (under ~500 MB for best results)

We’re working on ways to improve mobile stability in future versions.
