What are Hivenet users responsible for?

We keep the platform secure—you keep your access secure.

In the shared responsibility model, Hivenet takes care of the cloud itself.

But when it comes to your individual account and files, you’re in the driver’s seat.

That doesn’t mean you need to be a security expert. It just means staying mindful of a few core responsibilities.

You’re responsible for:

  • Creating a strong encryption passphrase
This is your master key. It controls access to your encrypted files—so it needs to be secure.

  • Keeping your passphrase private
Never share it, and don’t store it in a text file or sticky note. Use a password manager if you can (we’ll walk you through this later).

  • Preventing unauthorized access
Be cautious with the devices and apps that can access your Hivenet account. Keep them secure, too.

  • Backing up critical files
Hivenet is reliable—but nothing beats redundancy. If a file is irreplaceable, consider having a local copy.

  • Reporting suspicious activity
If you ever see something strange on your account, tell us right away. We’re here to help.

The home analogy (one more time)

Think of Hivenet as your digital apartment building:

  • We maintain the structure, locks, and power

  • You’re responsible for locking your door and keeping your keys safe

Next, we’ll explore what we do to go above and beyond in keeping your data protected—starting with how Hivenet’s distributed design builds in security from the ground up.
