Encryption begins when you create your account

Security isn’t something we add later—it starts from day one.

The moment you sign up for Hivenet, your encryption journey begins. Behind the scenes, a few important keys are generated to keep your data secure:

Here's what gets created:

  1. Your user key
This is generated from your encryption passphrase and never leaves your device.
It’s what unlocks everything else—but only in your hands.

  2. The read key
A randomly generated 32-byte key used later to unlock file-related data.

  3. The dedup key
Another 32-byte random key, encrypted with the read key.
It helps reduce redundant data across the network.

These keys are all part of Hivenet’s multi-layer encryption system. Each layer protects the next—like nested safes with different locks. And the only person holding the combination is you.

When you upload a file, these keys come into play to encrypt, organize, and lock your data securely across the network.

We’ll show you how that works next.
