Privacy and security for cloud storage

Most cloud providers can keep your data safe—but who else can see it?

Most major cloud providers—Google, Dropbox, Microsoft—offer strong security.

They encrypt your data, monitor for threats, and protect against outside attacks.

But here’s the catch: many of them can still see your files.

Even if they encrypt your data “in transit” (while it’s moving) or “at rest” (while it’s stored), they often control the keys to unlock it. That means if they get a legal request—or choose to scan your files—they can decrypt and access your data without telling you.

In other words, the security is solid—but the privacy? Not so much.

Here’s how Hivenet is different:

Hivenet’s encryption is end-to-end—and only you hold the passphrase. We never see your files. We couldn’t decrypt them even if we wanted to.

That means:

  • Your files are encrypted before they leave your device

  • No one—not even us—can access them without your passphrase

  • You stay in full control of your data, always

We’ll talk more about how this encryption works in upcoming sections. For now, just know this:

Security protects your data. Privacy protects your rights. Hivenet protects both.
