Wei has a day job—but after hours, they’re a producer and performer with over 15 years of creative work stored across drives, apps, and backups.

Their archive? It’s personal. Emotional. Irreplaceable.

“It’s not just data to me—it’s like my legacy. These samples, recordings, half-finished sketches… they tell a story. It probably sounds silly, but it feels like I should write a will.”

Before Hivenet, Wei kept everything in iCloud. But over time, they started looking for something that felt less corporate—and more aligned with their values.

Why Hivenet?

What drew Wei in wasn’t just the distributed architecture or the clean UI—it was the idea of a cloud that’s powered by people.

“The fact that it runs on actual users’ hardware really clicked with me. It feels more human. Less wasteful. Like we’re building something together.”

Now, Wei uses Hivenet to store their creative archive, freeing up space on local drives and making inspiration accessible wherever they are.

Wei’s creative setup

Their Hivenet folder has two main parts:

Non-work Stuff

A small collection of personal documents and photos, fully synced.

Music Stuff

  • Samples (~300GB): Raw sounds, loops, and audio assets—ready for use anytime

  • Live & Streams (~400GB): Performance footage, mostly set to cloud-only

  • WIP: A local folder for current video projects

  • Plus: cover art, social media assets, and project notes

Wei still uses external drives for full video backups, but Hivenet now acts as a second layer of access—especially on the go.

Creativity, unplugged

One of Wei’s favorite use cases? Mobile recording.

“I’ll grab a weird sound when I’m out—something from nature, a bus stop, a crowd. I’ll run it through an app, distort it a bit, and drop it into Hivenet. Then when I get home, it’s waiting for me.”

They’ve even used old field recordings from years ago while jamming at a friend’s place. No laptop needed.

Bonus: mobile-friendly media management

Hivenet also gives Wei quick access to past performance clips and social-ready media—all from their phone. Once uploaded, editing and sharing becomes a breeze.

On contributing:

“I haven’t contributed storage yet—my phone’s full and I don’t have the setup. But I want to. Honestly, I feel kind of guilty using other people’s drives without giving back. I’ll get there.”

Key takeaways:

  • ✅ Hivenet is a great fit for personal creative archives

  • ✅ Mobile workflows unlock creative spontaneity

  • ✅ Cloud-only settings help free up local space

  • ✅ Hivenet layers well with existing backup strategies

  • ✅ Values matter—community and sustainability resonate with creators
